Modern 1:72

I have been painting some more 1:72 Modern figures for my Modern-ish campaign (It all started from the Coup de Etat scenario in Charles Grants "Programmed War Games Scenarios".

Some time ago I created an area with the local State, the Russians and Nato\USA and the general plan for the campaign. Unfortunately my plan I hatched last year has resulted in real life dealings in the Ukraine - I should sue Overlord Putin for copyright. (Jokes aside I hope its all peacefully resolved) .

Anyways I've used a match of Italeri WW2 Soviets for my local State.

The local Police force - They remind me of the ever....so friendly Russian Border guards I met back in 2002 - Stern as ice but happy once bribed.

The Local Militia\Army forces

The Russian Special Forces who arrive to "help".

Nato forces (Italeri US infantry) who arrive to "help" aswell.

More plastic fantastics.

I had hoped to achieve a lot this week but I have managed to pick up a cold which has curtailed things a great deal. I am off to Melbourne on Friday night for most of next week so hopefully I'll get to visit the great Victorian Hobby Centre and pick up some figures unavailable in NZ or simply have a good nose around in a fully stocked hobby store.

In the meantime when I was bored I painted some 1:72 Napoleonic to use for the odd Skirmish games.

Italeri British.

Quite a nice pack this one, the figures are a lot skinnier than the French counterparts.

 Italeri French

Another nice set , the figures are chunkier than the old Esci ones I used to have. They paint up well and really look the part.

And the first repainted figure of my Hinchcliffe Saxon Jaeger as  testor. I haven't had the motivation to start the other 99 figures.

I've also been sorting out some other little piles of lead. Basing 6mm figures for solo wargames and then a white spray undercoat.

Plastic Nostalgia

So after the ACW game at David's house a long time ago I found some of my plastic ACW figures and decided to give them a whirl. The paint jobs are crude, the basing is simply brown paint with green flock but that is what my ACW armies have always been (Since I was 12) and that is the way I like them (Such an odd-fellow aren't I) as my first ever war-game was an ACW game so it has that nostalgic feel about it.

A Revell Union limber, horrible piece of plastic to pit together - Very soft plastic that glue won't stick to so it took me ages to get it ready.

The matching artillery piece which I quite like.

Revell US cavalry. I dragged these out and painted some up. Horrible figures as everyone is either facing left or right.
The dismounted troops (Amazing to get Mounted and dismounted in the same pack) are a lot nicer. I have the uniforms with too much yellow on them but they match my 25 year old unit)

And that Me109 that I bought a  long time ago. It hasn't had a good life, its been dropped several times (.........oh pretty plane daddy .......thud) and my paint job is crap but its the first model plan I have made in some time so beggars can't be choosers).

Painting while travelling.

I'm off to Australia today for a few days work, I'm going to try taking some paint and figures with me to get something done while I am there as while I'll see a friend of mine two of the nights the rest of the time I usually spend sitting in the hotel room bored reading blogs and watching sky sports (Except that dreadful Aussie rules).

So - I have taken my 6mm Prussian 1813 group  with me and the base coat paints to at least get something done while I am there.  They are in a small box wrapped in a plastic bag  next to my trusty bathroom supplies.

They are packed well so hopefully after a long days work (at -3 hour timezone) in nice 30C heat it will allow me to relax and get something done.

I have also taken a place in   ThistleBarrows Napoleonic PBEM campaign as Marshal Mortier and the 3rd French Army, defending Eastern France from the hordes of Austrian moustachios.  Initial moves have been done and time will tell if my cuning plan comes to fruition or I end up on the boat carrying someone's bags to St Helena.

Cheerrio.

Diceshoponline or dicerippeopleoffonline.

I ordered some dice from dices shop online. (Not a big order but sufficient )I'd be happy but I never received the order and the supplier does not want to respond to me at all.So I used the power of social media and sent them a message via facebook which wasn't replied to. so I posted on their page, that must have got a reaction as they deleted the post and removed my ability to comment or send them messages. Silly buggers as I have two facebook account so highlighted this to them in another message.  I'm quite a reasonable person, if a supplier said to me "oh dear" or "bugger it got lost" I actually wouldn't mind and would write it off  but when I get no response to anything it just feeds my motivation to get an answer. Their weak attempt to stop me asking about my order probably wasn't their greatest move. The value of the order is insignificant , its the principle of the matter ! However they still have an obligation regarding "our contract" and that isn't settled under I receive the goods or get a refund.

I'm guessing they have gone "He's in NZ he cant do anything" but alas for them as a citizen of the UK and my plan to return sometime this year for a holiday I'm not letting them away with that. Neither is my cousin in the UK whom has is legal sights set on them so I'm sure going to enjoy this !

My camera has also been damaged as the power cuts out (the batteries are fine) so I'm waiting a while to get some photos of it to show what I have been doing. I did manage to start an entertaining game last night with Archduke Piccolo so hopefully he will post some pictures up.

I am off to Aussie next week which should be good fun and am looking forward to a trip to Melbourne in March where I get to visit Eureka Miniatures and get some more Ab figures.

Cheerio.

Fell off the wagon.

8 days of no gaming\painting\modelling has finished. Last week I made a last minute dash to get involved in a game at Mr Clarksons residence across town. Its a long way to go after a day of work but my withdrawal symptoms of not doing anything had me beaten.

We played in a small Fire and Fury game where a small CSA force (2 infantry, 1 cav, 2 guns) raced to defend a bridge crossing before a Union force (4 Inf, 1 Cav,3 guns) could attack it. I commanded One CSA infantry and the cavalry, while Nigel took the remaining Infantry unit and the battery. Our opposition were Geoff and Ross. The game was extremely exciting for such a small game and was in the balance for most of the game. The CSA came out victors.......just. My units took a beating defending the bridge but thanks to Ross rolling a never ending list of 1's on a d10 (miss) for his artillery at point blank range they just held on. We managed to stall a Union column attacking across the bridge in the last few moves and it saved my bacon.

As the midweek boredom is killing me (I don't watch TV, I find its not relaxing at all, and xbox gaming hurts my eyes after a day at work) and most of my lead-pile is in storage I have visited Acorn models and walked out with.......

and

Two of my greatest enemies. Limbers and Horses are not my strong point but it is time to face my fears as as well as kick-start my 1/72 ACW forces again. I have not made a model plane since 1993 and I remember that was a disaster (I was 17 though) so I'm going to I've this one a good crack. I also have some putty to fill the horrible join lines that are always present in model kits and it will be a Tropical paint job (In my version of Sandgelb, which is Dark yellow (Dunkelgelb) as I only have a dark yellow spray can, and no sand left :) -)

Of course I have a box under my desk at work full of some kits so they will also make an appearance.

Dungeon Delving part 1. - Find a body.

As I have nothing to paint or look at while we are in limbo (I am finding this quite hard to deal with - all that time I could be painting or basing I am instead sitting there twiddling thumbs) I tried a solo Dungeon delve using Goblinoid games Labyrinth Lord.

I have tried several of these so far and they have resulted in the quick death of all party members each time around. But I had a feeling this time around it would be different ( Well I hoped at least)

A chance encounter in the Inn, "The Mistrials Chalice" has led to a local merchant hiring a team of fresh faced adventurers to find out the fate of his brother. His brother had recently entered a (usually empty) dwarves fort to research a book on dwarves mining methods. A half-ling party had been hired but the merchant suspected they had taken payment but then run away.

Sigrid gathered his merry band (as-well as Foromor the Dwarf who's knowledge should be valuable) to enter the complex, find out what occurred and hopefully make some money.

These characters were all created via the Labyrinth Lord character maker (http://truculent.org/llchar/) and selected at Random.

Aglaia the Envoker (L2 Magic) - Mace
Foromor Forgerunner (L1 Dwarf) - Longsword
Zosime the Prestigator L1 Magic) - Quarterstaff
Otonia the Prestigator (L1 magic) - Spear
Sigrid the Veteran (L1 Fighter) - one hand pick

Before setting out the group visited a local merchant to better equip themselves for the journey ahead (As the default equipment everyone was equipped with daggers)

As they neared the entrance they could hear a deep croaking noise, so they steadied themselves for the worst. As they entered the small entrance room they saw several giant toads. Luckily the appearance of the party surprised the toads and they fled the room, some bounding past the group through the front door, while 2 fled through an open doorway.

Foromor scanned the entrance for traps and not detecting any the party advanced into a large hallway. As they entered they were made aware of the shuffling of feet coming from the dark. They readied their weapons and soon several zombies lurched into view. luckily Foromor and Sifrid made short work of the first two, while Aglaia slew another as it rounded the corner. Two more zombie shuffled into attack but were both displatched under a hail of blows.

The party then advanced north to some double doors, and open entering a smaller chamber encountered a party of halflings resting in the room. After some conversations it appeared the halflings had become trapped wedged between prowling Kobalds and the undead menace while also trying to find the merchants brother. Hearing that the zombies were no longer alive, they thank the party and make haste back to town. Hearing the guttural bark of Kobalds, then party ready themselves and burst into the next room. The sudden and aggressive arrival of armoured adventurers, instead of halfling did not appeal to the Kobalds and they all fled through another set or doors. Kobalds
failed morale>

The party continued the search through the complex, most rooms were empty and derelict. The eventually found the bodies of the merchant in the deepest room of the complex. They wrapped his body in linen and carried him towards the entrance. This gritty task was made rather enjoyable by the fact also in the room, hidden in a wall cavity was a large pile of Silver pieces, as well as 3 precious jems (I rolled a 3 on a D100)

At the entrance Sigrid realised that a passage run off to the north, so Forormor and himself (Feeling very emblazoned and tough after a fairly uneventful adventure)  advanced down the corridor and reached the entrance of the last room. The stench of rotting flash filled the air, a green slimy substance and the scattering of Bones of all manners in the entrance suddenly made the two stout fellows decide that it was worth it so they returned to the entrance and the party as a whole returned to the village.

The merchant paid the group for returning his brother for burial. The reward was a a roll on the unprotected treasure table. This resulted in some silver pieces, some gold pieces and a magic item, which turned out to be a Girdle of Giant Strength. This was a magnificent reward as it allows a character to attack as an 8 HitDice monster, with double the damage.

So back to the The Mistrials Chalice for a hearty meal, songs of glory, some ale and thinking about what the party will get up to next (I have a feeling the next adventures is going to get them all killed).
