MIssion Control- Request fire mission, over..Mission Control do you read me ?.......Rodger Young !!! Do you copy ?

Also known as Big Battleship orbits planet while Starship Troopers get a pasting.

Another quick SciFi game to play test some rules. Classic Starship Troopers v Bugs and not looking that good for the bugs However a weak Mobile Infantry Force, lots of bugs and A Starship that seemed interested in other things led to a great game.

A short summary - Starship troopers landed, shot bugs and then faced a bug Tsunami.  A certain spaceship in orbit could not be reached several times for fire support and the Troopers had to fight and die the hard way. They managed to shoot their way out......just.

Bugs, thousands of em !!!!!!!

I've always wanted to play Epic, yet for some reason I never did. Of course now its all OOP I want to get it as I love playing scifi. I most play solo on at home as I build a backstory to it all as I find straight up shooting boring.

Of course all this ends up as is my muttering to myself at the Kitchen table over some toy soldiers but its entertainment. My new role at work is really draining at the moment and I'm overworked and overloaded. So I need to get back into some regular painting\planning to clear my mind.

So after I helped play Test 15mm.co.uk's rules Patrol Angis I've been playing with some new rules developed by a friend.

My initial game is Marines v Bugs - You can get much purer than that I guess !

I land my Space Wolves on the planet "ChipsenPies" to clear some bugs. I take several marine Squads, support weapons, artillery and some Assault Marines.

My marines advance and hump it towards the high ground.

While the bugs burst out of every nook and cranny.
1st Company of Grey Wolves take the high ground and see the horizon is a sea of bugs. A quick radio check to the operator sees the Whirlwind support artillery blasting the masses from long distance.
But on they come. The Marines brace themselves for the impact and soon are fighting at close quarters.
However superior firepower and protections (Big guns and Big Armour) save the day and the bugs are stomped underfoot.
Even their queen breaks out of her nest to show her displeasure but it is no use. Assault Marines surround here while Land Raiders suppress her.

Jolly good fun ! In a few days time it will be the real deal - Starship troopers. Not that Hollywood crap (Vietnam in space) but proper Starship troopers.

Sci Fi Scenery

I managed to sprain my ankle last week and after some xrays and hobbling around I am now getting back into the swing of things.

Still waiting on my work phone grrrrrrrr - I should just walk down and buy one.

I have another 20 54mm Turks to prep and I have been busily gluing away over the last two nights using a mix of epoxy, superglue and blue tack (Thanks for all the tips). I got  a bit bored last night with Turks so made up my 15mm sci-fi scenery that is made from laser cut .MDF

Very weak photos below.

The scenery is from Mad mecha and consist of some two story apartments, some solar panels and a series of one story shops. When I first got them some time ago I could not work out how they went together (I don't know how I could not work out how to do it when I first got them). Now that epic moment of stupidity is over I made them up last night. I have enough now to fill a table and I can also mix them into my modern games hopefully.

Below a pic of the kitchen table press-ganged into my workshop. Buildings pretty much everywhere and the Turks on the left having a rest.

 Two floors of the shops.

I'm going to spray them with flat white and then paint each section to make them a little more real.

Use Me Sci Fi

So after a little painting last night  I gave USE ME Sci Fi rules (http://www.15mm.co.uk/UM001.htm) a whirl on the kitchen table. I randomly rolled for a Human force. The random rolls were simply based on the figures I had painted and available. The result was one Imperial Security Officer (Laserburn Retained Figure), 2 Embassy Staff (Astro Miniatures) and a rather pointless Repair Droid (GZG).  Then rolling for a Force of Malig's (theionage Goblinoid henchmen) who were going to Assault them (basically it was 2 D6 of Malig's) and I used the USE ME solo rules to determine their behavior. The resulting roll was aggressive which meant they will basically come charging in gins blazing and then try to skewer the humanoids on point things.

The table was simply a hotz mat I picked up of trade me, and a few ammo crates items for the sake of it and the photos were taken from my phone as my camera is dead.

The game started with the humanoids standing around a tracked vehicle waiting on a Transporter to pick them up. The force of Malig's then come charging on the table in a skirmish line and make straight at the enemy.

The game last 4 turns and is summarized as follows. No one can shoot anything with accuracy to save themselves, so the Malig's basically charge. The security officer gets wounded  a great deal, but manages to kill half the Maligs in melee, while the combat droid is destroyed.

The other two humans don't really do anything constructive in melee, neither do the Maligs so they all stand there for two turns waiting for the Security Officer to dispatch people in once he has cleared his own attackers.

Results:

The game was very fast, it was all over in about 20 minutes. The USE ME rules are very easy and simple and seemed like a good rule set for a fast shootemup\hackand slash type of game.  The lack of Morale Rules  did mean that I could fight till the death, but I should read the rules again as I suspect I may have missed something.  if there isn't I can always just make some up. Anyhow it was good fun and the rules were pretty straight forward

As it was 9.15Pm I was tempted to then try TwoHourWargames space 2150 but I thought I'd better devote some time to it properly another night (As I recall the rules are large so more time will be spent flicking though pages) so I went and prepared 50 6mm tanks for painting.
