As such, yesterday's crescendo on an otherwise unremarkable day, was the several boxes of 28mm French hurtling towards the floor as they were tipped over by mistake.</p><p style="text-align: left;">Gravity wins again.</p><p style="text-align: left;"></p><h1 class="dcr-h5yuj3"></h1><p style="text-align: left;">So, now I have made a start on fixing and rebasing something in the order of 200–300 figures. Perry figures are nice, but the light infantry all became amputees, and the front rank figures packed a scrum at one end of their boxes. Lancers broke, standards came off and so on.</p><p style="text-align: left;">So, what a good reason to try and document this all.<br /></p><p></p><p style="text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis9QMl7zbeu4ZMVh1H-unSSVS3Xl_52yamzF8E8YHSNClk4cZ-xLcWun4KxDSGzzNyjFQyM7CXzeqZjKtXozxqH_sN2bTQ8aVCVytqj8KgvoUIlwAU9IsMEXHGIPQAIec4RUOF0LgqbTOT0vkbRJrH6NPPcoLffZrS3e6AP7dVf0raGQMaBbJ0vNgaa0M/s4032/20240303_155957.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2268" data-original-width="4032" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEis9QMl7zbeu4ZMVh1H-unSSVS3Xl_52yamzF8E8YHSNClk4cZ-xLcWun4KxDSGzzNyjFQyM7CXzeqZjKtXozxqH_sN2bTQ8aVCVytqj8KgvoUIlwAU9IsMEXHGIPQAIec4RUOF0LgqbTOT0vkbRJrH6NPPcoLffZrS3e6AP7dVf0raGQMaBbJ0vNgaa0M/s320/20240303_155957.jpg" width="320" /></a></p><br /> <p></p>Jackohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01156243437690752780noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8433886749743369629.post-76275802933365735642022-06-18T23:09:00.001-07:002022-06-18T23:09:41.747-07:00Testing Rules for refights<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

My industry destroyed, had a large pay-cut for a year, had to make redundancies and see a lot of clients businesses go under or have at least 90% staff loss. That is the way it sometimes goes, some ends up getting the smelly end of the toilet brush and the alternative was far worse, dead industry and sick community. I have a lot of friends and family globally, so I saw what they went through and wouldn’t wish it any other way. It certainly felt like "going down with the ship" at times, but it did highlight to me the importance of this hobby in my life. However, we are still here and things are looking up for 2022.<br /></p></div><div style="text-align: left;"><p>Recently there was an excellent mental health YouTube post - I recommend viewing it. </p></div><div style="text-align: left;"><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><p><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3KpfYVIoklI" width="320" youtube-src-id="3KpfYVIoklI"></iframe></p></div><p></p></div><div style="text-align: left;"><p>Despite the extremely stressful times, I found that painting gave me that nice release away from it all. I have accomplished quite a lot in this time, painting and gaming, but when it came to the blog I simply could not be bothered. A few times to be honest, I have even been tempted to simply exit this hobby, but that is more to do with my accumulation of unfinished project, so I have been sorting those out. </p><p style="text-align: left;">I hope to document these projects more, as I have completed a vast amount of painting and basing. So below is a small sample of my 2020/2021 results work, and it is almost purely all 1/72 scale from a variety of periods.<br /></p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMw1ge-363G9M_gDODKZaJ4kX1CcpUFE0pOe6yUc5jI_Ucz648fkuI0wnKndvxBamCrUtkWi8Yk9m1IMnRp98V2fAcl-1HsmLmLHUfyZ4yENWurDLSrz_VmVO-8Q1SQTMQ6PqmZr0y2QM/s2048/242307604_392562329158034_2419598890765351504_n.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMw1ge-363G9M_gDODKZaJ4kX1CcpUFE0pOe6yUc5jI_Ucz648fkuI0wnKndvxBamCrUtkWi8Yk9m1IMnRp98V2fAcl-1HsmLmLHUfyZ4yENWurDLSrz_VmVO-8Q1SQTMQ6PqmZr0y2QM/s320/242307604_392562329158034_2419598890765351504_n.jpg" width="320" /></a><br /></p></div><p>I plan to make posts on the completed forces, and you can read all the Colonial Campaigns at <a href="http://archdukepiccolo.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Archduke Piccolo</a><br /></p>Jackohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01156243437690752780noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8433886749743369629.post-31104298148030408402020-03-10T01:13:00.000-07:002020-03-10T01:13:12.586-07:00Sailing up the Limpopo.<div>

For the original positions, I went with several baggage trains, intermingled with foot troops and cavalry bringing up the rear. I had hoped the Cavalry could use the clear ground to some effect, but in the end, they were "swamped" with the rest.</div>

<span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am being very productive, but taking photos is not high on the list at the moment so there is some delay on that front. To my surprise, Airfix is releasing a kit of old sets and to my surprise, I found a great classic...<br />

A botched relief. Soviets attack a town while inept Italians send one unit at a time into the meat grinder. This came down to a infantry slog, with the Soviets taking advantage of the town as cover.</div>

I bought several boxes along to this game, mostly Romanians and Italian. To my surprise and, alarm I found I had not finished painting most of them. I must have been in a rush 2 years ago, so I spent last evening finishing 33% of the force. The rest I shall do tonight, so that my Romanians for command decision are ready to go.<br /><br />

Battle of Elchingen, 1805</h2>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today, <a href="https://chasseuracheval.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Mark</a> hosted <a href="http://archdukepiccolo.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Ion</a> and me to a refight of Elchingen, from the 1805 Campaign.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The figures are all Marks collection as he hosted it in his lounge on a somewhat average summers day.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I took on the role of General Riesch, commanding a mostly poor Austrian force defending a ridge-line between two villages. MY forces were all on the table as of the start of the game, whilst the advance French forces would be bolstered on turn 2 and turn 6. The Austrian forces had a single battery, a smattering of Grenadiers, Cavalry and raw troops, with these forces being deployed behind the hills, in the town and on the far left flank.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The orders from Mack, reminded me of a Tarot card reading. Something like, "oh, something might happen, maybe, yes, no, maybe so, mmm yes, you think about that". So, having commanded a Spanish Napoleonic army for 15 years, I decided to what I did best with raw troops, defend, reinforce key points with Veteran troops and hope for a dashing charge to sweep away the enemy at a crucial moment.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The initial Austrian deployments below. All Austrian troops move forwards, supporting the villages and also making themselves visible on the ridge-line hoping to draw French into the central position.</div>

The village resulted in a game long siege, the French assaulted time after time, slowly gaining a foothold but at great cost in lost units.

The left flank then collapsed after a unit broke and took most of it's brigade away with them, a rule mechanic came into play here that I thought was tedious, in that when a unit breaks, those around it take a morale test. However, if a unit breaks as a result of that initial morale the rest of the force takes another morale check. So in a single turn, a veteran unit had to roll morale 3 times, as a unit then broke on the second round which I thought was over the top.Simply in terms of play-ability, I did not really think too much of it, as I have seen a similar problem in another rule-set (A unit of 95th Rifles had to roll morale 6 times in a minute in a 15mm game). But hey, lots of rules of odd mechanics and I was handling a raw army.</div>

<br />
An online review of this game was quite right. Graphics are crap, the terrain is crap but this game is epic if you want to refight huge Napoleonic battles.<br />
<br />
So far I have taken some smaller games (Attacking Hougonmont and Holding the line (as Brunswickers) and I hope to attempt a divisional game soon before ultimately fighting Ligny, Wavre and Waterloo.<br />
<br />
<b>Strategic Command - WWII - War In Europe</b><br />
<br />
Fighting WW2 European\Africa theatre - This is a bit like Hearts of Iron but not as granular (You command Corps\Armies with some basic research) not the full divisional\political micromanagement level HOI was.<br />

In my game, Poland fell easily, as did the low countries and I managed to just knock out France. Do I take on Russia as historically expected or push through the Balkans and head to the middle east?<br />
<br />
I know one thing for sure, the Italians cannot hold North Africa at all.<br />
<br />
<br />
The WW2 game was picked up after Archduke Picillo and myself played a hex-based Desert War game last weekend (Update to come). I have some travel coming up so it will be a good activity to fill time on the boring business trips I do.Jackohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01156243437690752780noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8433886749743369629.post-53725819398897561592018-09-24T02:32:00.003-07:002018-09-24T02:32:42.152-07:00Command Decision - North African Progress<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
Hi,</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have returned from the usual winter doldrums where no time and motivation are lacking. In the last month or so I have achieved a fair amount, but did not record any progress on the camera.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There are 4 projects ongoing at the moment, all targetted as Command Decision WW2.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>North Africa - DAK</li>
<li>North Africa Italian</li>
<li>North Africa 8th Army</li>
<li>Normandy British.</li>
</ul>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The Italians are 99% complete and ready to roll onto the Archduke Piccolo's table. Afterwards, I decided to complete one of the Panzer Grenadier\Schutzen Regiments as I had all my desert pains handy.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
First I needed to make up for some missing vehicles and lucky the local swap meet solved some of those requirements.</div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX5YHFYVcSu5cmoU5a4FvR7li0flOavHGlFB9wD8cw1ADwTsYfepBR14-9R3QeLprwXh5sZU-iDyj7i1yaMT4dZAwxCWrqiJOAQtAc9pq-qmIumBepZI8HYidmJhphbl03sEqmoP5-iqw/s1600/20180901_173325.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1321" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiX5YHFYVcSu5cmoU5a4FvR7li0flOavHGlFB9wD8cw1ADwTsYfepBR14-9R3QeLprwXh5sZU-iDyj7i1yaMT4dZAwxCWrqiJOAQtAc9pq-qmIumBepZI8HYidmJhphbl03sEqmoP5-iqw/s320/20180901_173325.jpg" width="264" /></a></div>
But another area I was lacking was trucks (I had 2). So I have discovered a source of Opel Blitz trucks from China, not for the detail-oriented mind you but they look pretty good and suit my needs.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

A few other trucks picked up from Mr Shields has met my quota as now I have 20 trucks <br />
<br />
Over the next week, I shall load some more progress on the DAK, as well as get the Italians ready for a parade.Jackohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01156243437690752780noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8433886749743369629.post-67516979780763571932018-08-02T14:21:00.002-07:002018-08-02T14:21:45.938-07:00Hexblitz Italian North AfricaA short post.<br />
<br />
After a very long hiatus, Archduke Piccolo has tempted me to get back into the "game". He cunningly lured me into several games of Memoir 44 only to then present me with Hexblitz. Some time ago I also managed to snapup a copy of Megablitz.<br />
<br />
So after a long time, the production line kicked into action last night !<br />
<br />

I have hit a patch of lethargy, where I cannot be bothered doing any painting. Busy at work, home and general life leaves my fairly tired at the end of the day.<br />
<br />
During this time I did manage to pick up some second-hand books from an estate sale. A collection of Wargaming Books - one in particular "The War Game" was worth the purchase alone. others are a mix of useful books (I now have two copies of "Napoleonic Wargaming" though)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr6cUA9TGztm3b5gd9yS3qpy9jhpfsf6Ql_4p3GZ4jwrAQS4qnp43HYDIPuJnNxMfK5xJaeLbwELidpCe9SH4lFqp-3rVdgN1RO3yVHYrfH6OwPbmagnWNRqw2wacpEQD-gK1rlVBVg4s/s1600/742421758.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhr6cUA9TGztm3b5gd9yS3qpy9jhpfsf6Ql_4p3GZ4jwrAQS4qnp43HYDIPuJnNxMfK5xJaeLbwELidpCe9SH4lFqp-3rVdgN1RO3yVHYrfH6OwPbmagnWNRqw2wacpEQD-gK1rlVBVg4s/s320/742421758.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And a collection of Uniform Books which are very interesting, one of which has the old "plates" in it from drawings. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMMc2yB45OWX0_TG6gnH7GP-m9t9sEjLF2xFFEEqq71-XphyphenhyphenHytKg65tKNsNp6S62TNKB1QZJRufh_WNyQy-eI6tLEOa3oaZavRG0Q8-pD2ZIl9Osv920If9ADVdIkZOoQTqN4o8uJG80/s1600/744949316.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMMc2yB45OWX0_TG6gnH7GP-m9t9sEjLF2xFFEEqq71-XphyphenhyphenHytKg65tKNsNp6S62TNKB1QZJRufh_WNyQy-eI6tLEOa3oaZavRG0Q8-pD2ZIl9Osv920If9ADVdIkZOoQTqN4o8uJG80/s320/744949316.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
So some useful resources. One of the books is in French and has some excellent 70's style drawing in it of Uniforms from 1700 - 1970). I also received some 20mm Italian ww2 support weapons in the post so I suspect this will finally get me off my backside.Jackohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01156243437690752780noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8433886749743369629.post-3843669112631380652018-03-06T01:51:00.002-08:002018-03-06T01:51:31.553-08:00Desert War Progress<br />
Full steam ahead on the Desert War Italian and British Armour. All that is required now is to paint the bases and flock them in a desert style mix of sand and light colours.<br />
<br />
Stuarts,A-tanks and Portee are Frontline War gaming 20mm, Matilda is matchbox I recall(20 years old at least), Crusaders are Airfix or matchbox (20 years at least), Valentines are PSC and CV33's are S-Model.<br />
<br />

<br />
Below all the axis infantry is on the paint tray ready for basing. (While I did not need D.A.K I did them anyway (3 Battalions Worth)). The stands in green are my original Esci figures from 1994 😁.<br />

The Blackshirt stands for some of the better quality Italian units. (Caesar figures of which I have another box to complete)<br />

Being an avid WW2 gamer (well actually playing seems to be a mission) I have always wanted to have some solo actions of a larger campaign. The Channel Islands always took my interest as they are both small, and allow for European forces to battle it out in small scale. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I was lucky enough to visit the Channel islands almost twenty years ago for work when an unnamed</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
pension fund was looking into Tax Havens.I also grew up with Thomas the Tank Engine so after finding some interesting maps of Sodor I have been tempted to combine the two together and make it a new channel island.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVZ-nwZF_D5VvZdUsnN11VVI-xVvlzRDw6Ql6oVioMRJR_dwxP2fxHEXt_XwHuv-5MSX9kjNwHwhD8CwuIYFgjSVXb8jPNyxsCaE3zMZ2Q0tRwuRHh0SXF2sqwRa5TdMVQZn4TkpaB0Y4/s1600/Sodor1992.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="631" height="242" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVZ-nwZF_D5VvZdUsnN11VVI-xVvlzRDw6Ql6oVioMRJR_dwxP2fxHEXt_XwHuv-5MSX9kjNwHwhD8CwuIYFgjSVXb8jPNyxsCaE3zMZ2Q0tRwuRHh0SXF2sqwRa5TdMVQZn4TkpaB0Y4/s320/Sodor1992.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
I would at some stage like to have some type of Invasion campaign using this map as it is filled with objectives (mines, ports, airfields etc) however I shall start off by simply getting use to smaller actions solo (Small Commando raids, patrol actions) so that I can get used to the FightYourOwnbattle Mechanics and also streamline what I want to achieve.</div>

do some "wargaming" tasks per night. The above WW2 drive also had me
thinking about other ideas and scenarios I wish to pursue.<br />
<br />
But first some pictures ....German Paras (Italeri, Revell and Orion) and Infantry (Airfix and some Esci) and British Infantry (Esci) in the box of "glued".<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh630Toeykos_nh7gbXyhYz2-pei6knliMkC9x236R8hLp9wx7uIvRq6L1FK8obkpI2m0T1g2lF1YKfqfclQt57x4m7EkRnSKSJ3sFpmW7Yh8BXn8UXQz3tq4iJYu_i9mGqRg00b8DPnJU/s1600/20180221_193517.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="798" data-original-width="1600" height="159" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh630Toeykos_nh7gbXyhYz2-pei6knliMkC9x236R8hLp9wx7uIvRq6L1FK8obkpI2m0T1g2lF1YKfqfclQt57x4m7EkRnSKSJ3sFpmW7Yh8BXn8UXQz3tq4iJYu_i9mGqRg00b8DPnJU/s320/20180221_193517.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Airfix also released a new infantry kit for British - I rather like these. <br />

<br />
As a fan of Command Decision I have always wanted to get back into some small games, I have also used Rapid Fire before so I've been thinking about small campaigns I can play at night. Nothing more than a Battalion or two in size but enough to satisfy my urge - I have always wanted to do the Pacific (Kokoda or other small actions) and an invasion of a Channel Island.<br />
<br />
I picked up a set of the Solo WW2 Battle and Campaign Rules "Fight Your Own Battles" and "Fight Your Own Wars" (http://www.fightyourownbattles.co.uk/). A very interesting read and more to come on this subject.<br />
<br />
The motivation for this are simply classic movies<br />
<br />
"The Eagle has Landed" and "<i>Too Late the Hero", </i>both Micheal Caine movies that would suit small scale actions.<br />

I have done a lot and have a series of blog posts ready but I never seem to finish anything to post. Luckily the weather turned here as a cyclone came and it was nice and cool - perfect painting weather.<br />
<br />
Archduke Piccilo and myself have been getting ready for a Desert War game using the operational rules. My Italians have needed to be finished, but that has now expanded into the 8th Army vehicles.<br />
<br />
I have been quite industrious here. I based all the infantry and tanks, and then spray painted them (Desert Primer for the Italians and Light Sand for the British).<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyellI0kT9cczigd6dGyZ2hduiaDgYs22pIfbE9ht_DIY_esLI5SCCUDi8i1qnslxlp5235aE9MDsmbH7tkHqgfhVM2mMEtD3-MPvINAIrfXUmdOmWcYoLCKIbQ6ZwSN2Lf082xOw0vBY/s1600/20180214_210227.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="696" data-original-width="1600" height="139" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyellI0kT9cczigd6dGyZ2hduiaDgYs22pIfbE9ht_DIY_esLI5SCCUDi8i1qnslxlp5235aE9MDsmbH7tkHqgfhVM2mMEtD3-MPvINAIrfXUmdOmWcYoLCKIbQ6ZwSN2Lf082xOw0vBY/s320/20180214_210227.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The vehicles were then given a dose of Army Painter Quick Shade, and I am really please with how they came out. I am currently painting the infantry equipment and then they will be quicktoned too and I'll finish the bases.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjKK0ULSPmb41b0z-ByMXILJfFHwcCho0SS7z9spgfWUAbzFwqQlBmTvT-by94T7k3N_eIhZEnq3sUSrjVxhsr93fcnGMlPKzTSOJzOc4srIRO9TQr6CluaraIKkLBIWBB_8YMWPktXtc/s1600/20180220_202455.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="467" data-original-width="1600" height="93" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjKK0ULSPmb41b0z-ByMXILJfFHwcCho0SS7z9spgfWUAbzFwqQlBmTvT-by94T7k3N_eIhZEnq3sUSrjVxhsr93fcnGMlPKzTSOJzOc4srIRO9TQr6CluaraIKkLBIWBB_8YMWPktXtc/s320/20180220_202455.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
And I am slowly basing my 1/72 British for my Grande Armee refights<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

While I paint 15mm and 28mm in a certain why, the beauty and attraction of 1/72 is being able to create and paint largish armies quite simply and quickly.<br />
<br />
While my Napoleonic figures can be painted to some degree of detail my WW2, ACW, Fantasy and other armies don't need as much so I am going to experiment on them by using Army painter Quickshade.It has mixed reviews but recently I have seen several posts regarding it and the results look quite good.<br />
<br />
After reading a few posts on blogs and forums I followed the recommended technique and applied it using a brush, dried and followed with a Matt Varnish. I then wanted to see what they looked like to decide if I need to highlight any colours.<br />
<br />
I was suprised how shiny the quicktone made the figure but with varnish (applied properly) they looked quite good. So I tried a number of different periods and figures to see Quickshade fared.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
1. Italeri CSA Infantry (Good result)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTYcrcnwCWLpFaAU0PTXrX5hMH23xuiPverMwPtFJc6WYgILnJlNnTpLT6c1ReJ9ZVYUJEc8VseLgYxDtQmhqSuDgEFYfQRLAdLaS7qVN2OX1KJtt-ksZJC5wC6vSV86coZlH0pDi2Kb8/s1600/20180125_203920.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1112" data-original-width="1580" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTYcrcnwCWLpFaAU0PTXrX5hMH23xuiPverMwPtFJc6WYgILnJlNnTpLT6c1ReJ9ZVYUJEc8VseLgYxDtQmhqSuDgEFYfQRLAdLaS7qVN2OX1KJtt-ksZJC5wC6vSV86coZlH0pDi2Kb8/s320/20180125_203920.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
2. Esci Union Infantry (50/50 Result - Something about them nags at me)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHYc26c6B79OGWDBcYsnhni1GS7DRTVq_mp-qvAFoZToDwXRdghaThtXbAAx1UoNuLX6NcTtevhGymXk5w9RfMORKdcm9Zi_uT4amSwKNhTEFItng4dkoZAS5dOwd0FeSDfMYhtS_40Zo/s1600/20180125_203935.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1042" data-original-width="1146" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHYc26c6B79OGWDBcYsnhni1GS7DRTVq_mp-qvAFoZToDwXRdghaThtXbAAx1UoNuLX6NcTtevhGymXk5w9RfMORKdcm9Zi_uT4amSwKNhTEFItng4dkoZAS5dOwd0FeSDfMYhtS_40Zo/s320/20180125_203935.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
3. Esci Soviet Infantry (Good result)<br />

4. HAT\Airfix Napoloenic (Good result though I may highlight lighter colours as I like bright figures)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_y82_KwCspWvOEdNLpZsJNz5iojxoTxKNZpVBf_tLTt3dcXa5YZ8yv-N8cc0makLec1G7Rmy12rsiTTUrWuucH28ZrHyt4NbgzRkXk0vWHY72jzFLoOMBs1CYhrq0kvXQ3WIF8D2oU64/s1600/20180125_204012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="735" data-original-width="1600" height="146" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_y82_KwCspWvOEdNLpZsJNz5iojxoTxKNZpVBf_tLTt3dcXa5YZ8yv-N8cc0makLec1G7Rmy12rsiTTUrWuucH28ZrHyt4NbgzRkXk0vWHY72jzFLoOMBs1CYhrq0kvXQ3WIF8D2oU64/s320/20180125_204012.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
5. A Italeri CSA cavalryman. (Great result).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGlrqsRBkDxjLItBDUtmacTVOimroHAnafG5zGEDhgz-ISvdslF3Ox3sxgLCk-Iql1zQ5b0KtLZFjiwYpjK87m8m7s7BJmO2lb7qDrXz_nyhyphenhyphenqVvvdPUm9FBnlOrjE3fKdf4yEC8Z0Jjg/s1600/20180125_204035.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1511" data-original-width="1391" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGlrqsRBkDxjLItBDUtmacTVOimroHAnafG5zGEDhgz-ISvdslF3Ox3sxgLCk-Iql1zQ5b0KtLZFjiwYpjK87m8m7s7BJmO2lb7qDrXz_nyhyphenhyphenqVvvdPUm9FBnlOrjE3fKdf4yEC8Z0Jjg/s320/20180125_204035.jpg" width="294" /></a></div>
6. An Italeri Prussian Infantryman (Good result for an awful figure).<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG29BlNB58DnUVbE9wpBG0OSU_lVw8k5XT9XGGImKIgJLNIF10oX4-q8atNyODNvqVoFKO7UeIPW0YGY7wkJKRKqR9-U3IHUTcD6hr3-0dc7Amiyj2xgFfNzuq8SMRKlgbMINTGjYjjsU/s1600/20180125_204142.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1153" data-original-width="1046" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG29BlNB58DnUVbE9wpBG0OSU_lVw8k5XT9XGGImKIgJLNIF10oX4-q8atNyODNvqVoFKO7UeIPW0YGY7wkJKRKqR9-U3IHUTcD6hr3-0dc7Amiyj2xgFfNzuq8SMRKlgbMINTGjYjjsU/s320/20180125_204142.jpg" width="290" /></a> </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
So, I am quite pleased with the process. I was able to paint the these figures very quickly whcih was great, quicktone dry (1 day) and varnish dry (1 day). I am pretty confident I can finish the rest of the Napoleonic and ACW armies very quickly.<br />
<br />
Then I can get back into my 300 or so 28mm Prussians I need to start.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />

I was pointed to <a href="http://cardboard-warriors.proboards.com/" target="_blank">Cardboard-Warriors</a>, which is an excellent source of knowledge and resources as I still need to complete a few items I purchased.<br />
<br />
So in order to practice and not make the same mistakes encountered in making the Waterloo kits I decided to practice on some designs by "grendelsmother64" of the Laketown Village.<br />
<br />
These were printed on 100 gsm as its the only card my printer can support and I made them rather quickly (my biggest fault). But not bad for some quick themed terrain at short notice.<br />
<br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">
Around five or so years ago I picked up a Pireme Publishing Waterloo kit for around $10. I hastily made it without really thinking about its sturdiness and longevity. The completed item below in around 2011/2012.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3CbqrN8B_1nV7PfZPOVhjTe2qb3ClfjZUPuGTZU2gM_KGLnctijFIIsQj49diVS27lhyphenhyphenrIjGzoRbPT9dn9kt3hE3uMsBsUk7rikWPOVY0GOgz9Ym5E5TXrpCQBfd0sCvJWHHbkTs-1H8/s1600/DSCF0675.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3CbqrN8B_1nV7PfZPOVhjTe2qb3ClfjZUPuGTZU2gM_KGLnctijFIIsQj49diVS27lhyphenhyphenrIjGzoRbPT9dn9kt3hE3uMsBsUk7rikWPOVY0GOgz9Ym5E5TXrpCQBfd0sCvJWHHbkTs-1H8/s320/DSCF0675.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
5 years (ish) later I found them in the garage a few weeks ago in all sorts of states. Over time and poor storage they had warped and been damaged. So, as I am quite fond of them I started to repair them, firstly adding coffee stirrers in an attempt to strengthen them and also iron out the kinks. A good dose of glue gun and PVA also helped.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Le Belle Alliance (below) was the first patient. What a world of difference the first few braces made and the piece is looking far better than it did, it also feels a lot sturdier. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /> <br />
<br /> <br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgCVlc0FB3pyndbts8l4BGIm1Bf0Qldew7Zbec1eYkCz0BqYib3l5pmxC4-xSiwT2X1IyMdusdKIY9TJzwWlRyzAe6qJlPzQLSKoKlJcmS80wXz1ORRHL5dgS2lmvyFSpAGcnOVI1865M/s1600/20171203_121402.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="638" data-original-width="1600" height="127" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgCVlc0FB3pyndbts8l4BGIm1Bf0Qldew7Zbec1eYkCz0BqYib3l5pmxC4-xSiwT2X1IyMdusdKIY9TJzwWlRyzAe6qJlPzQLSKoKlJcmS80wXz1ORRHL5dgS2lmvyFSpAGcnOVI1865M/s320/20171203_121402.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
So , onwards I continues bracing all the other kits as well as starting on Hougonmont kit that I had never touched.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmJYfiNlLwoX4CzggMgBeSvPgeJsGS8O5VkXHChnkABUWU37hewGPAQ3zls2FFydU3TjnxbyPEWgsyMmIluEf8Ubs570IYzym5heyOoxXg3xRrlWrntF2h3xc6LDqOmW2ulQzZJSe9H0E/s1600/20171203_121341.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="818" data-original-width="1600" height="163" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmJYfiNlLwoX4CzggMgBeSvPgeJsGS8O5VkXHChnkABUWU37hewGPAQ3zls2FFydU3TjnxbyPEWgsyMmIluEf8Ubs570IYzym5heyOoxXg3xRrlWrntF2h3xc6LDqOmW2ulQzZJSe9H0E/s320/20171203_121341.jpg" width="320" /> </a></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am currently basing them so I hope to have some completed pictures soon.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Happy New year ! </div>

<br />
During Archduke Piccilo and I's recent foray into Operation scale WWII games I needed to dramatically increase my logistics units for the Romanians. As part of my Early War Desert Italian forces I was quite short on trucks so I went for the cheap version and simply press ganged several toy trucks into the fold.<br />
<br />
Here in NZ, the Corgi Cadbury toy trucks are everywhere . I can usually pick up three for $5 so I managed to by around 12 of them about a year ago. They are not 1/72, slightly larger but I don't mind as they are close enough.<br />
<br />

A simply spray paint, wash and dry brush has provided me with a emergency backup if I need a lot of trucks at once. Two of the eight are below:<br />

After watching a terrain tutor youtube clip, I also thought I would experiment with basing vehicles but by using some old foamboard I had. I did not have 3mm board but thought I would try it anyway and am quite pleased with the results of my simple efforts. <br />
<br />
I will add a final highlight to the trucks ( to tidy up a lot of the bad dry brushing) and some Italian unit markings but on the whole I am happy with the results.<br />
<br />
Merry Christmas to you all !Jackohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01156243437690752780noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8433886749743369629.post-62202923416641073862017-12-17T22:27:00.001-08:002017-12-18T11:34:48.291-08:00Scratchbuilt Fantasy BuildingI am currently in the process of repairing my 15mm Hougonmont and Le Haye Sainte which are Pireme Publishing card stock buildings. That shall be another post but it did spark my desire to complete several other projects that have long been on the back burner.<br />
<br />
<br />
Marksman Gaming posted a tutorial some time ago on how he makes his Tudor Cottages. Seeing as I had nothing to do and wanted to practice\learn myself I decided to give one try. One small project I have is to build some fantasy\medieval town buildings and my Zvedza fortress, as such I need buildings. <br />
<br />

<br />
The only building I have made before is the effort below some 10 years ago, not the prettiest thing I might add. Horrible actually but I guess by 2037 I should be able to make something half decent.<br />

The frames cut out per the recommendation.<br />

Hey Presto - glue gun action, coffee stirrers. matchsticks and PVA glue later the frame is completed.</div>

<br />
I could knock this together in an evening so I was quite pleased with myself. I do want to make some more and all I had left was to paint it and see what it looked like in the light of day. A few glaring errors and improvements needed (Not sure why I used matchsticks) but cheap, recycled and easy to make. They will suit the purpose I want them for so that is good enough for me !<br />

<br />
Of course I did try some other things too such as a 1/72 siege tower. I just needed something and this was better than anything else I had.<br />
